Occupy Rural Oregon

The Occupy movement is taking the country, and Oregon, by storm.  The majority know that our democracy has failed us; our voices are buried under campaign contributions and Wall Street has its grip on Salem and D.C.  Rural and small-town Oregonians are leading the way with Occupy actions in over 40 communities! Longtime human dignity leaders are working with new activists to hold marches, roundtable discussions, teach-ins, and bold actions in their communities, engaging the 99% of small-town Oregon around the kind of democracy and economy we need in rural America.

ROP is proud to do what we do best: activate our communities, build local power, foster innovative work, and connect rural leaders and aspiring organizers to develop locally relevant strategy.

Occupy Rural Oregon Strategy Sessions

This is an exciting moment in history. How do we best build from this moment?  What are the next strategies for the Occupy movement in rural and small town Oregon?

The Rural Organizing Project is holding a series of Occupy Rural Oregon Strategy Sessions to think through the big questions around this movement and to develop next steps strategies for our communities across rural Oregon.

Join us for this “think tank” conversation – it doesn’t matter if you have joined Occupy work or find your activism somewhere else.  The goal is two-fold: to help shape thinking for rural and small town strategy across Oregon and to share ideas and strategies that are relevant for local organizing.

ROP will share strategies for and stories of small town Occupy organizing and lead a conversation to explore: What’s next for our community? What strategies do we need to strengthen the Occupy movement in rural Oregon?  Organizing strategies for this winter, for 2012, and beyond.

Contact Cara at cara@rop.org if you would like to host an Occupy Rural Oregon Strategy Session in your community!

Occupy Our Post Offices

Monday, December 19 was a remarkable day. Over 23 communities across Oregon came together to fight back against Congress’ move to privatize the Postal Service for corporate profit. It proved just how much rural Oregon cares about core community infrastructure that supports EVERYONE, not just the 1%. Check out the slideshow featuring pictures from actions across the state!

You can help save rural post offices! Sign our petition to Congress demanding that they FIX the USPS’ financial crisis that they created in 2006 and that they save rural post offices!
